” . . . and that’s because USA Today did a big story on it and everybody was saying ‘Gee, I wonder what it was?’ and of course by that time they had laid down their cover story, that it was just military flares dropped by the Maryland State Guard! And reporters called up the Maryland State Guard and they said ‘Yes, we did, we flew out there and we dropped some military flares over the Barry Goldwater Gunnery Range at about ten o’ clock that night’ and so everybody goes ‘Oh okay, it was just military flares!” and poor dumb reporters – I don’t know what’s happening to reporters these days – but they didn’t catch the fact that the big thing that flew over Phoenix was seen by thousands of people and the videotape happened at eight-thirty that night!”

“Yes, there were some lights at ten o’clock, but think how easy that was: after eight-thirty, somebody said, ‘We’ve got to have a cover story’, so somebody calls up the Maryland State Guard and tells ‘em to go out there and drop some flares, which they did. And later they can say it was military flares, which it was, but that isn’t what the people in Phoenix saw. Folks, you have to keep up with these stories and you have to think for yourself!”

“And you know, if I can interrupt, you know that the governor had, at the original news conference back in 1997, I think he had someone come in with an alien costume and he did his little speech -”

“Yeah, he made a big joke out of it!”
